Minsk agreements
The Minsk agreements refer to a series of international accords aimed at resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine, which began in 2014. The first agreement, known as Minsk I, was signed in September 2014, while the second, Minsk II, followed in February 2015. These agreements were brokered by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and involved representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.
The main goals of the Minsk agreements include a ceasefire, withdrawal of heavy weapons, and the restoration of Ukrainian control over its borders. They also outline political measures, such as local elections in the conflict-affected areas. Despite these efforts, the implementation of the agreements has faced numerous challenges, and sporadic fighting has continued in the region.
