Mines of Moria
The Mines of Moria are an ancient underground complex located beneath the Misty Mountains in Middle-earth. Originally built by the Dwarves of the Durin's Folk, these mines were known for their vast wealth, particularly in mithril, a precious metal. The mines were abandoned after the Dwarves awakened a fearsome creature known as the Balrog, leading to their downfall.
In J.R.R. Tolkien's works, particularly in The Lord of the Rings, the Mines of Moria serve as a significant setting. The Fellowship of the Ring travels through these dark tunnels, facing various dangers, including orcs and the Balrog. The mines symbolize both the glory and the tragedy of the Dwarven race.
