Millbank Prison
Millbank Prison was a notable prison located in London, England, established in 1816. It was designed to house prisoners awaiting transportation to penal colonies, particularly in Australia. The prison was known for its distinctive architecture and was one of the first to implement the separate system, where inmates were kept apart to prevent them from communicating.
In 1883, Millbank Prison was closed and later demolished in 1902. The site was redeveloped, and today, it is home to the Millbank Tower, a prominent office building. The prison's history reflects the evolution of the British penal system and its approach to incarceration.
