Middle Greek
Middle Greek refers to the stage of the Greek language spoken and written from approximately the 3rd to the 15th century AD. It evolved from Ancient Greek and served as a bridge to Modern Greek. This period saw significant changes in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, influenced by various cultures and languages, including Latin and Turkish.
During the Byzantine Empire, Middle Greek was the language of administration, literature, and education. It included a rich body of literature, such as religious texts, poetry, and philosophical works. The transition to Modern Greek began in the late Middle Ages, marking the end of this linguistic phase.
