Micrometeoroids
Micrometeoroids are tiny particles from space, typically measuring less than a millimeter in size. They originate from comets, asteroids, and other celestial bodies, and they travel through space at high speeds. When they enter the Earth's atmosphere, they can burn up and create bright streaks of light known as meteors.
These small objects can also pose a risk to spacecraft and satellites. Even though they are small, their high velocity can cause significant damage upon impact. Scientists study micrometeoroids to better understand their composition and behavior, which helps improve the safety of missions in space, including those involving the International Space Station.
