Michigan Lighthouses
Michigan is home to over 120 lighthouses, making it one of the states with the most lighthouses in the United States. These structures were built to guide ships safely through the Great Lakes, particularly during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Many of these lighthouses are now historic landmarks, showcasing unique architectural styles and local history.
The Great Lakes surrounding Michigan present both beauty and challenges for navigation. Lighthouses like the Big Sable Point Lighthouse and the Point Betsie Lighthouse not only serve as navigational aids but also attract tourists and photographers. Today, many lighthouses are preserved and open for public tours, offering a glimpse into maritime history.
