Meteorological Balloon
A meteorological balloon is a large, inflatable balloon used to collect data about the atmosphere. Typically made of latex or synthetic materials, these balloons are filled with helium or hydrogen and can rise to altitudes of 30 kilometers (about 18 miles) or more. Attached to the balloon is a radiosonde, an instrument that measures temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure as it ascends.
Meteorological balloons are crucial for weather forecasting and research. They provide valuable information that helps meteorologists understand weather patterns and predict storms. The data collected is transmitted back to ground stations, contributing to more accurate weather models and forecasts.
