Meteora Monasteries
The Meteora Monasteries are a group of six stunning Orthodox Christian monasteries located in central Greece. They are perched atop towering rock formations, which rise dramatically from the ground. Built during the 14th to 16th centuries, these monasteries were established by monks seeking solitude and spiritual enlightenment.
The name "Meteora" means "suspended in air," reflecting their breathtaking heights. Today, the monasteries are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors for their unique architecture and beautiful landscapes. They also serve as important centers for Eastern Orthodox Christianity, preserving religious traditions and art.
