Messier_87
Messier 87 (M87) is a giant elliptical galaxy located about 53 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. It is one of the most massive galaxies in the local universe and contains a supermassive black hole at its center, which was famously imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope in 2019.
M87 is notable for its bright core and the large jet of particles that extends thousands of light-years from the black hole. This jet is composed of high-energy particles and is a result of the intense gravitational forces at play. The galaxy is also a member of the Virgo Cluster, a group of over 1,000 galaxies.
