Messier 84, also known as M84, is a giant elliptical galaxy located in the constellation Virgo. It is part of the Virgo Cluster, which contains many other galaxies. M84 is approximately 60 million light-years away from Earth and has a diameter of about 130,000 light-years.
This galaxy is notable for its bright core and the presence of a supermassive black hole at its center. M84 was discovered by the French astronomer Charles Messier in 1781 and is cataloged as the 84th entry in his famous list of nebulae and star clusters.
