Mersey Tunnel
The Mersey Tunnel is a road tunnel that runs beneath the River Mersey in northwest England. It connects the cities of Liverpool and Wallasey, providing a vital transport link for vehicles. Opened in 1971, the tunnel is approximately 2.1 miles long and allows for efficient travel across the river, reducing congestion on surface routes.
The tunnel consists of two separate tubes, one for each direction of traffic. It is operated by the Mersey Tunnels organization, which also manages the Queensway Tunnel. The Mersey Tunnel is an important part of the region's infrastructure, facilitating both local and regional travel.
