Mersey Docks and Harbour Board
The Mersey Docks and Harbour Board was established in 1857 to manage the docks and harbors along the River Mersey in England. Its primary role was to oversee shipping activities, ensuring safe navigation and efficient cargo handling. The board played a crucial part in the development of the port, which became one of the busiest in the country.
In 1970, the board was dissolved, and its responsibilities were transferred to the newly formed Mersey Docks and Harbour Company. This transition aimed to modernize operations and adapt to changing shipping demands, continuing the legacy of the Mersey as a vital trade route.
