Mentalis
The Mentalis is a small muscle located in the chin area, part of the group of muscles known as the facial muscles. It plays a crucial role in facial expressions, particularly in movements that involve the lower lip. When the Mentalis contracts, it helps to elevate and protrude the lower lip, contributing to expressions of doubt or disdain.
This muscle is innervated by the facial nerve, which controls most of the muscles of facial expression. The Mentalis is important not only for communication through facial expressions but also for functions like drinking and speaking, as it helps to stabilize the lower lip.
