Mekong River Dolphin
The Mekong River Dolphin, also known as the Irrawaddy Dolphin, is a freshwater dolphin found in the Mekong River basin, primarily in Cambodia and Laos. This species is known for its rounded forehead and lack of beak, making it distinct from other dolphins. They typically grow to about 2.5 to 3 meters in length and can weigh up to 130 kilograms.
These dolphins are considered critically endangered due to habitat loss, fishing practices, and pollution. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their remaining populations, which are estimated to be fewer than 100 individuals in the wild.
