Megillah
The term "Megillah" refers to a scroll that contains a biblical book, most notably the Book of Esther. It is traditionally read during the Jewish holiday of Purim, which commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people from a plot to destroy them in ancient Persia. The reading of the Megillah is a central part of the Purim celebration, often accompanied by festive gatherings and the giving of gifts.
In addition to the Book of Esther, there are other Megillot, such as the Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, and Ecclesiastes. Each of these scrolls is read on specific Jewish holidays, reflecting themes relevant to those occasions. The Megillah serves as an important cultural and religious artifact within Judaism.
