Medicare Part A
Medicare Part A is a part of the federal health insurance program designed for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as certain younger people with disabilities. It primarily covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health services. Most people do not pay a premium for Part A if they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes while working.
Enrollment in Medicare Part A is automatic for those receiving Social Security benefits, but others may need to sign up during specific enrollment periods. It is important to understand that while Part A covers many services, it may not cover all costs, such as deductibles and co-payments.
