Medial Ligaments
Medial ligaments are connective tissues located on the inner side of a joint, primarily found in areas like the knee and ankle. They help stabilize the joint by connecting bones and preventing excessive movement. The most well-known medial ligament is the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in the knee, which supports the joint during activities like walking and running.
These ligaments play a crucial role in maintaining joint integrity and function. Injury to medial ligaments can lead to pain, swelling, and instability, often requiring rest, physical therapy, or in severe cases, surgical intervention. Proper strength and flexibility can help protect these ligaments from injury.
