Maximus the Confessor
Maximus the Confessor was a Christian monk and theologian born around 580 AD in Constantinople. He is best known for his defense of the two natures of Christ, emphasizing the importance of both His divine and human aspects. Maximus played a significant role in the theological debates of his time, particularly during the Monothelite controversy, which questioned whether Christ had one or two wills.
In addition to his theological contributions, Maximus was also a prolific writer. His works include commentaries on the Bible and various treatises on spirituality and ethics. He was eventually exiled for his beliefs, and he is venerated as a saint in both the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions.
