Mawu
Mawu is a deity in the traditional beliefs of the Fon people of Benin. She is often associated with the moon and is considered a goddess of fertility, creation, and motherhood. Mawu is typically depicted as a nurturing figure who brings life and abundance to the earth.
In the Fon cosmology, Mawu is often paired with her brother, Lisa, who represents the sun. Together, they embody the balance of day and night, light and darkness. Mawu's influence is seen in agricultural cycles and the nurturing aspects of nature, making her a central figure in the spiritual life of the Fon community.
