Mawangdui Han Tombs
The Mawangdui Han Tombs are a significant archaeological site located near Changsha, Hunan Province, China. Discovered in 1972, these tombs date back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 9 CE) and contain the remains of a noble family, including a well-preserved mummy known as Lady Dai. The site has provided valuable insights into ancient Chinese burial practices, art, and daily life.
The tombs consist of three burial mounds, with the largest housing the remains of Li Cang, a high-ranking official. Excavations revealed numerous artifacts, such as silk textiles, lacquerware, and ancient manuscripts, which showcase the advanced craftsmanship and cultural richness of the Han Dynasty.
