Maud Lewis
Maud Lewis was a Canadian folk artist known for her vibrant and whimsical paintings. Born in 1903 in South Ohio, Nova Scotia, she faced numerous challenges, including severe arthritis, which limited her mobility. Despite these obstacles, she developed a unique style characterized by bright colors and simple, joyful depictions of rural life, animals, and flowers.
Lewis lived in a small, one-room house with her husband, Everett Lewis, who supported her artistic endeavors. Her work gained recognition in the 1960s, and she became a beloved figure in the Canadian art scene. Today, her paintings are celebrated for their charm and are displayed in various galleries, including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
