Matilda of Tuscany
Matilda of Tuscany was a powerful noblewoman in the 11th century, known for her significant role in the politics of northern Italy. Born around 1046, she was the daughter of Bertold of Canossa and Beatrice of Lorraine. Matilda inherited vast lands and became a key supporter of the Pope during the Investiture Controversy, a conflict between the papacy and the Holy Roman Empire.
