Matilda of Canossa
Matilda of Canossa was a powerful noblewoman in medieval Italy, born around 1046. She was the daughter of Boniface of Canossa and played a significant role in the politics of her time. Matilda was a key supporter of the Pope during the Investiture Controversy, a conflict between the church and secular leaders over the appointment of bishops.
