Materials Recovery
Materials recovery is the process of collecting and processing recyclable materials from waste to be reused in manufacturing. This includes items like paper, glass, metals, and plastics, which can be sorted, cleaned, and transformed into new products. By recovering these materials, we reduce the need for raw resources and minimize environmental impact.
The materials recovery process often takes place in facilities known as Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs). Here, waste is sorted using machines and manual labor to separate recyclables from non-recyclables. Effective materials recovery helps conserve energy, reduces landfill waste, and promotes a more sustainable economy.
