Martha Wayles Skelton
Martha Wayles Skelton was born on October 27, 1742, in Charles City County, Virginia. She was the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner and grew up in a privileged environment. Martha married Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, on January 1, 1772. Together, they had six children, but only two survived to adulthood.
Martha was known for her intelligence and charm, playing a significant role in Jefferson's life. She managed their household and was involved in social and political circles of her time. Sadly, she passed away on September 6, 1782, leaving a lasting impact on Jefferson and American history.
