Martha Dandridge Custis Washington
Martha Dandridge Custis Washington was born on June 2, 1731, in Virginia. She was the daughter of a wealthy planter and married Daniel Parke Custis in 1750, becoming a prominent figure in colonial society. After her husband's death, she managed their estate and raised her children.
In 1759, Martha married George Washington, who would later become the first President of the United States. As the first First Lady, she played a significant role in supporting her husband during the American Revolutionary War and helped establish the social protocols of the new nation. Martha passed away on May 22, 1802.
