Marquis of Monferrato
The Marquis of Monferrato was a noble title in the region of Monferrato, located in northern Italy. This title emerged in the 10th century and was held by various noble families, most notably the Aleramici family. The marquisate played a significant role in the political and military affairs of the region during the Middle Ages.
The marquisate was often contested by neighboring powers, including the Duchy of Savoy and the Kingdom of Italy. In 1536, the title was absorbed into the Duchy of Mantua, marking the end of the independent marquisate. The legacy of the Marquis of Monferrato continues to influence the cultural history of the area.
