Maroon Wars
The Maroon Wars were a series of conflicts in the 18th and 19th centuries between the British colonial forces and the Maroons, who were escaped enslaved Africans living in the Caribbean, particularly in Jamaica. The Maroons established independent communities in the mountains, resisting colonial rule and fighting for their freedom.
The first major conflict, known as the First Maroon War (1728-1739), ended with a treaty that granted the Maroons autonomy. The Second Maroon War (1795-1796) arose from tensions over land and resources, ultimately leading to further negotiations and the recognition of Maroon rights.
