Markermeer
Markermeer is a large lake located in the central part of the Netherlands. It was created in the 1970s when the Afsluitdijk, a major dam, was built to separate the North Sea from the IJsselmeer. The lake covers an area of approximately 700 square kilometers and is known for its recreational activities, including sailing, fishing, and birdwatching.
The Markermeer is also an important ecological area, home to various species of birds and fish. Surrounding the lake are several towns and villages, such as Hoorn and Lelystad, which offer amenities and access to the water. The lake plays a significant role in the region's economy and tourism.
