Marinus van der Lubbe
Marinus van der Lubbe was a Dutch communist who became widely known for his involvement in the Reichstag Fire of 1933 in Germany. He was arrested and accused of setting fire to the Reichstag building, which was the seat of the German parliament. His trial and subsequent execution raised significant questions about the political climate in Nazi Germany.
The fire was used by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party to justify the suspension of civil liberties and the arrest of political opponents. Van der Lubbe's case remains controversial, with debates about whether he acted alone or was part of a larger conspiracy orchestrated by the Nazis to consolidate power.
