Marijaia
Marijaia is a large, traditional figure that symbolizes the Aste Nagusia festival in Bilbao, Spain. She is typically made of papier-mâché and stands around 14 feet tall. Marijaia represents joy and celebration, embodying the spirit of the festival, which lasts for nine days in August.
During the festival, Marijaia is paraded through the streets, and her presence is a focal point for various events, including concerts, performances, and fireworks. At the end of the festival, she is ceremoniously burned, symbolizing the conclusion of the festivities and the hope for a prosperous year ahead.
