Marguerite of Provence
Marguerite of Provence was a 13th-century queen consort of Louis IX of France. Born around 1221 in Provence, she was the daughter of Raymond Berengar IV, Count of Provence. Marguerite married Louis in 1234, strengthening ties between the French crown and the region of Provence.
As queen, Marguerite was known for her piety and support of the Catholic Church. She played a significant role in the political landscape of her time, particularly during the Crusades. Marguerite and Louis had eleven children, contributing to the royal lineage of France and the broader European nobility.
