Malolos Convention
The Malolos Convention was a significant event in Philippine history, held in 1898. It marked the establishment of the first republican constitution in Asia, drafted by the revolutionary government led by Emilio Aguinaldo. The convention aimed to create a framework for governance following the country's declaration of independence from Spanish colonial rule.
The constitution was ratified on January 20, 1899, during the Malolos Congress in Malolos, Bulacan. It outlined the principles of democracy, civil rights, and the separation of powers. However, the convention faced challenges, including the outbreak of the Philippine-American War, which ultimately hindered its implementation.
