Mallee fowl
The Mallee fowl is a unique bird native to the dry regions of southeastern Australia. It is known for its distinctive nesting behavior, where it builds large mounds of soil and leaf litter to incubate its eggs. The male Mallee fowl is responsible for maintaining the temperature of the mound, which can reach up to 33 degrees Celsius.
This bird is part of the family Megapodiidae, which includes other mound-building birds. Mallee fowl are medium-sized, with a stout body and a short tail. They primarily feed on seeds, fruits, and insects found in their arid habitat, making them well-adapted to their environment.
