Mahar
The term "Mahar" refers to a social class in India, traditionally associated with the practice of untouchability. Members of this community were historically marginalized and faced discrimination, often relegated to menial jobs. The Mahar community is primarily found in the state of Maharashtra and has a rich cultural heritage.
In modern times, many Mahars have made significant strides in education and social mobility. Prominent figures, such as B. R. Ambedkar, who was a key architect of the Indian Constitution, emerged from this community. Efforts continue to uplift the Mahar community and promote social equality in India.
