Maffei 1
Maffei 1 is a giant elliptical galaxy located about 10.1 million light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is one of the closest galaxies to the Milky Way and is part of the Maffei Group, which includes several other galaxies.
Discovered by Paolo Maffei in 1968, Maffei 1 is notable for its large size and bright appearance in infrared light. It has a diameter of approximately 100,000 light-years and contains a significant number of stars, making it an interesting subject for astronomers studying galaxy formation and evolution.
