Macropod
A macropod is a member of the family Macropodidae, which includes kangaroos, wallabies, and other similar marsupials. These animals are native to Australia and New Guinea and are known for their powerful hind legs, long tails, and large feet, which help them hop efficiently across various terrains. Macropods are herbivorous, primarily feeding on grasses and leaves.
The term "macropod" means "big foot," reflecting their distinctive foot structure. There are over 60 species of macropods, ranging in size from the small quokka to the large red kangaroo. They play a significant role in their ecosystems by grazing and helping to maintain plant growth.
