Macquarie Perch
The Macquarie Perch is a freshwater fish native to the rivers and streams of southeastern Australia. It is known for its distinctive appearance, featuring a deep, laterally compressed body and a large mouth. This species typically grows to about 30 centimeters in length and is recognized for its vibrant coloration, which can vary from silver to greenish hues.
This fish is an important part of the ecosystem and is often found in rocky habitats with plenty of cover. Unfortunately, the Macquarie Perch is considered endangered due to habitat loss, pollution, and competition from introduced species. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore its populations in the wild.
