MIDI Standards
MIDI standards, or Musical Instrument Digital Interface standards, define a protocol for electronic musical instruments to communicate with each other. Established in the early 1980s, these standards allow devices like synthesizers, computers, and controllers to send and receive musical information, such as notes and timing, in a digital format.
The MIDI protocol includes various specifications, such as MIDI 1.0 and MIDI 2.0, which enhance functionality and expand capabilities. MIDI 1.0 focuses on basic note and control messages, while MIDI 2.0 introduces higher resolution and more expressive features, enabling richer musical experiences and improved interoperability among devices.
