M44, also known as the Hercules Cluster, is a prominent open star cluster located in the constellation Hercules. It is one of the brightest and most easily observable clusters, containing around 100 stars. M44 is approximately 500 light-years away from Earth and spans about 20 light-years in diameter.
This cluster is best viewed during the spring months and can be seen with the naked eye under dark skies. M44 is also referred to as the Beehive Cluster due to its dense grouping of stars, resembling a beehive. It is a popular target for amateur astronomers and stargazers.
