M23
M23, or the March 23 Movement, is a rebel group based in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It was formed in 2012, primarily by former members of the National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) and other armed groups. The movement's name refers to a peace agreement signed on March 23, 2009, which they claim was not fully implemented.
The group has been involved in various conflicts, often clashing with the DRC government and other militias. M23 has been accused of human rights violations, including attacks on civilians. The international community, including the United Nations, has called for dialogue and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing violence in the region.
