Luke 16:19-31
In Luke 16:19-31, Jesus tells the story of a rich man and a poor beggar named Lazarus. The rich man lives in luxury, while Lazarus suffers outside his gate, longing for scraps of food. When both men die, their fortunes are reversed; Lazarus is taken to Abraham's bosom, a place of comfort, while the rich man finds himself in torment in Hades.
The rich man, in agony, begs Abraham to send Lazarus to cool his tongue with water. Abraham explains that their fates are fixed and that the rich man had his good things in life, while Lazarus suffered. The rich man then asks Abraham to send Lazarus to warn his family, but Abraham replies that they have Moses and the prophets to guide them.
