Luis de León
Luis de León was a prominent Spanish poet, theologian, and scholar of the 16th century. Born around 1527 in Belmonte, he became a significant figure in the Spanish Renaissance. He was a member of the Order of Saint Augustine and is best known for his contributions to religious literature and poetry, often reflecting themes of spirituality and nature.
De León was also a notable translator, particularly of the Song of Songs from the Bible, which showcased his deep understanding of both Hebrew and Latin. His works, such as "La Perfecta Casada," emphasized moral and ethical values, influencing both literature and religious thought in Spain.
