Ludendorff Bridge
The Ludendorff Bridge, also known as the Remagen Bridge, is a historic railway bridge located in Remagen, Germany. It was completed in 1916 and played a significant role during World War II when it was captured by American forces in March 1945. The bridge's strategic location allowed Allied troops to cross the Rhine River, facilitating their advance into Germany.
The bridge is notable for its unique design, featuring a steel arch structure. Despite being heavily bombed, it remained standing until it partially collapsed on March 17, 1945. Today, the Ludendorff Bridge is preserved as a memorial and a symbol of the war's impact on the region.
