Lucayan Language
The Lucayan language was the native language spoken by the Lucayan people, who inhabited the Bahamas before European contact. It is classified as part of the Arawakan language family, which includes several languages spoken in the Caribbean and South America. The Lucayan language is now extinct, as the population declined significantly due to colonization and disease.
Very little is known about the Lucayan language, as there are no extensive written records. Most of what is understood comes from a few documented words and phrases, as well as accounts from early European explorers. The loss of the Lucayan language reflects the broader impact of colonization on indigenous cultures in the region.
