Lozi People
The Lozi people are an ethnic group primarily found in Western Zambia, particularly in the Barotse Floodplain. They speak the Lozi language, which is part of the Bantu language family. Traditionally, the Lozi are known for their rich cultural heritage, including music, dance, and crafts, which play a significant role in their community life.
The Lozi people have a unique social structure centered around the Barotse Kingdom, led by a king known as the Litunga. Their economy is largely based on agriculture, fishing, and cattle rearing, with the annual Kuomboka ceremony being a significant cultural event that marks the king's journey from the floodplain to higher ground during the rainy season.
