Loy Krathong Festival
The Loy Krathong Festival is a traditional Thai celebration that takes place annually on the full moon of the 12th lunar month, usually in November. During this festival, people create small floating baskets, known as krathongs, made from banana leaves, flowers, and candles. These krathongs are released onto rivers, lakes, and ponds as a way to pay respect to the water spirits and to seek forgiveness for any pollution caused.
The festival is celebrated throughout Thailand and is often accompanied by various activities, including fireworks, traditional dances, and beauty contests. Many people also participate in the Yi Peng Festival, which involves releasing lanterns into the sky. Together, these celebrations create a beautiful and enchanting atmosphere, symbolizing the hope for good fortune and new beginnings.
