Lower Leg Muscles
The lower leg muscles are primarily divided into two groups: the anterior (front) and posterior (back) compartments. In the posterior compartment, the key muscles are the gastrocnemius and soleus, which together form the calf. These muscles are responsible for plantar flexion, allowing the foot to point downward. They play a crucial role in movements such as jumping and pushing off the ground.
