Lord Speaker
The Lord Speaker is the presiding officer of the House of Lords in the United Kingdom. This role was established in 2006, replacing the previous position of the Lord Chancellor. The Lord Speaker's primary responsibilities include maintaining order during debates, representing the House of Lords to the monarch and the public, and overseeing the administration of the House.
The Lord Speaker is elected by members of the House of Lords and serves a non-partisan role. Unlike the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Lord Speaker does not have the authority to call votes or enforce discipline among members. Instead, their focus is on facilitating discussions and ensuring that parliamentary procedures are followed.
