Lord Selkirk
Lord Selkirk, born Thomas Douglas in 1771, was a Scottish nobleman known for his efforts in promoting Scottish emigration to North America. He is best recognized for founding the Selkirk Settlement in present-day Manitoba, Canada, which aimed to provide a new home for impoverished Scots.
In addition to his settlement work, Lord Selkirk was involved with the Hudson's Bay Company, advocating for the rights of settlers and Indigenous peoples. His initiatives contributed to the development of the Canadian prairies and left a lasting impact on the region's agricultural landscape.
